This application is only the first step in the process of having your pet considered by our Director of Incoming (you will be asked to provide photographs at the end of this form). The surrender process can take SEVERAL WEEKS, and generally will NOT happen “overnight” and should NOT be considered a commitment from Desert Paws Animal Rescue of NM to accept your pet into our program.
A completed surrender application does not obligate Desert Paws NM to take your pet.
* Aggressive pets will NOT be considered.
* Desert Paws NM has the right to deny or refuse any surrender application.
* Desert Paws NM will request a minimum fee of $150 from individuals wishing to surrender their pet in order to help with the initial care, feeding and medical care that may be required. ($200 if not already spayed/neutered). Fee and length of stay increases with age and existing medical considerations.
* Desert Paws NM does not have a shelter or other facility, our ability to rescue pets is dependent on the number of available foster homes.
The surrender application is intended to provide general information about the pet you wish to surrender to Desert Paws NM, such as name, gender, age, weight, color, type of food, dates and types of immunizations, any medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of and general behavior around children and other animals. When completing the application, PLEASE be honest as it helps Desert Paws NM volunteers to PROPERLY place your pet in a home. Negative behaviors DO NOT mean we will not take a pet into our program. What you perceive, and what we perceive as negative are usually not the same. Many behaviors are just typical cat or dog traits.
Once you submit your surrender application, a volunteer member of our incoming team will contact you, generally by email. This may take 7 to 14 business days, as we receive numerous surrender applications each day, and it takes our volunteers time to thoroughly review each request. Further, depending on the number of pets we have in our rescue program, we may not be able to take in your pet immediately due to limited capacity, so we kindly ask for your patience. Thank you for your interest and understanding.
A completed surrender application is not a commitment from Desert Paws NM to accept your pet.
